A Word From the President
We, at SKIHI are going
into or out of the depression (depending who you listen to) with as
large a backlog of work as I remember. We should consider
ourselves very lucky to be in that position. I feel we are fortunate
that we have a competitive price and a good reputation. I hope
that each SKIHI employee is as proud of that as I.
We
still need to plan our work as we have in the past and prefabricate as
much of our work so it can be installed at the jobsite as efficiently as
possible. This prefabrication allows the work to be constructed
without the confusion and distractions that take place at the jobsite.
This also allows us to complete tasks at the jobsite in a shorter period
of time so we are not slowed by other trades.
This
increase in workload will allow us to rehire some of our good employees
that were laid off due to the big summertime school push that ended last
August. We are in need of good journeymen and helpers to build up
our workforce at this time. As I have always said we welcome
anyone who wants to learn a trade and will help them in attending
classes conducted by the Construction Education Foundation.
We
held our annual Benefit Golf Tournament last October and it was a huge
success due to the participation of our many sponsors. We recently
donated a total of $60,000 to Cook Children Hospital in Fort Worth and
ROPARD at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oaks Michigan.
We
are currently conducting 30 Hour OSHA classes for all our supervision
personnel. We are continuing to keep our safety incentive program
in place along with recognition of exemplary safe personnel on a
quarterly basis. Safe conduct on our projects is very important to
us at SKIHI. First we do not want anyone hurt on our jobsites.
Second a good safety record is reflected in our insurance cost and helps
us maintain a competitive position in our market place.
I
believe the future is bright at SKIHI. I hope that all employees
are happy to be a part of the SKIHI team.
